Durban University to Host Final Round of BRICS 2025 Debate

Durban University of ⁤Technology in South⁤ Africa will⁤ host teh BRICS Debate Finals in late November, focusing​ on global power shifts and strengthening South-South ⁢cooperation.

According to the english section of webangah News Agency, Durban ‌University of Technology,⁢ in collaboration with the BRICS Research Institute and Venda University, will host the 2025 BRICS Debate Finals.The event will take ‌place from November 26 to‍ 28 at the Steve Biko campus and will feature a hybrid format for participants.

Five‌ debaters representing Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa will compete‍ through a series of ten ⁢international debate rounds.The⁤ central theme for ‍this year’s competition is “BRICS and the Global South: New Power Dynamics in the⁣ 21st Century.”

Fulufhelo nemulolwa, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research ‍and Innovation at Durban University of technology, will deliver the welcome address. Fulufhelo ⁢Netsuhera, head of the BRICS Research Institute, is set to officially open⁢ the event. Additionally, consuls general from ‌China and ⁤India will share diplomatic messages on⁢ behalf of their countries.

Netsuhera highlighted the ‌importance of these debates: “In BRICS debates we do ⁢not just compete; ‌we ⁣connect. This event‌ demonstrates how South Africa ‌and ‌the BRICS community are redefining⁣ global narratives through research, ‌innovation, ​and intellectual ⁤diplomacy.”

The program ⁢includes structured 30-minute debates alongside public sessions such as ⁤”Humor⁢ in‌ Diplomacy” and ‍an expert panel titled‌ “BRICS Diplomacy and the Future ⁢of Global South Cooperation.”

The event concludes on November 28⁤ with an awards ceremony honoring winners including BRICS Debate ​Champion 2025,⁤ Best speaker, Outstanding Researcher,⁤ and‍ recipient of the “Spirit of Diplomacy” award.
