Israeli Military Bans Soldiers from Using Android Phones

The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and al-Nashra, reports that the Israeli army has imposed new restrictions on mobile phone use among its senior officers. These measures aim to strengthen details security and reduce infiltration risks following lessons learned from the October 7 operation.
According to the report, this decision followed an internal review that concluded an unprecedented ban on smartphone use by Israeli officers is necessary. It also called for increased monitoring of devices used for military purposes.
The report notes that in previous years, the army provided American-made iPhones only to officers ranked colonel or above for work-related use. The Israeli military argues that Android phones are more vulnerable to hacking, leading it to restrict their use while deeming iPhones more secure.
The update extends these restrictions to include officers with the rank of lieutenant colonel and above, adding hundreds more officers who are now prohibited from using Android smartphones.
