Following a shooting near the White House targeting two members of the U.S. National Guard, the country has also suspended asylum requests.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services director announced that all asylum request rulings have been halted, according to webangah News Agency citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera.
The measure aims to ensure a “thorough review and inspection” of every foreign individual.
Separately, Reuters reported that U.S. Secretary of state Marco Rubio declared a suspension on visa issuance for all travelers holding Afghan passports.
This action follows the declaration that the primary suspect in the White House shooting-currently detained by American authorities-is a 29-year-old Afghan national.
U.S. CBS News disclosed the suspect’s full name as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who entered the United States in 2021.
