Denmark Stresses the Need for Inclusive Syrian Governance

According to webangah News Agency, citing Al Jazeera, Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen held a joint press conference today, Saturday, with Assad al-Shiblani, Foreign Minister of the self-declared Syrian government.Rasmussen expressed hope for a near future exchange of ambassadors between the two countries. He added that he will visit israel (the occupied Palestinian territories) tommorow to emphasize the need for a enduring solution to regional crises.
The Danish minister further stated-without mentioning ongoing Israeli attacks on Damascus-that it would be better to have good relations between Syria and Israel. “We support a new Syria on its path toward a more prosperous future,” he said.”We are committed to building strong ties with Syria and will increase our annual aid to $100 million.”
Lars Løkke Rasmussen also stressed the importance of inclusive governance in Syria involving all Syrians. He noted that major Danish companies will seek investment opportunities in Syria and that he has discussed ways to facilitate the return of Syrians currently living in Denmark with his Syrian counterpart.
These claims of Danish assistance and cooperation come while Western powers had consistently expanded sanctions and increased pressure on Syrians during Bashar al-Assad’s legitimate government tenure.
