CNN: Maduro’s allies and the White House are seeking a potential agreement with Washington
Simultaneously occurring, CNN cited several U.S. officials claiming that Maduro’s inner circle has explored possible ways to reach a deal between Washington and Caracas with the White House.
Since September, U.S. forces have targeted more than 20 boats reportedly used for drug trafficking in the Caribbean Sea and eastern pacific Ocean, causing at least 83 deaths.
The United States has also deployed its largest aircraft carrier-the USS Gerald R. Ford-alongside destroyers and fighter jets in the Caribbean as part of what it officially calls an anti-narcotics operation.
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro condemned this deployment as a threat aimed at toppling his government and seizing the country’s oil reserves.
