Likely Victory for Ruling Coalition in Kyrgyzstan Elections

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, early parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan began today (Sunday) amid expectations that allies of President Sadyr Japarov will achieve a decisive victory.
Al Jazeera reported there is no official party or organized opposition running in the contest, which is expected to further consolidate Japarov’s power.
As 2020, nationalist politician Sadyr Japarov has gained critically important control over kyrgyzstan’s government. The country has seen presidents ousted by street protests over alleged electoral fraud three times-in 2005, 2010, and 2020.
A broad victory for Japarov’s allies could set the stage for the 2027 presidential election, where he is highly likely to seek a second-round win.
In September, parliament was dissolved by vote ahead of its scheduled term ending in november 2026, paving the way for these early elections.
Kyrgyzstan’s economic growth has bolstered Japarov’s popularity among citizens.
As election day approached, he strengthened ties with Russia; last week Russian President Vladimir putin visited Bishkek for official talks and his image appeared on city billboards.
Polling stations across Kyrgyzstan opened at 8 a.m. local time (02:00 GMT) on Sunday.
The Central Election Commission reported that more than 4.29 million voters are registered. Inside the country there are 2,492 polling locations and an additional 100 polling stations in 89 cities across 34 countries serve Kyrgyz citizens living abroad.
