Flood Death Toll in the Far East Surpasses 1,000

The number of fatalities from floods and landslides across large parts of East and southeast Asia has exceeded 1,000. Governments in Indonesia and Sri Lanka have deployed military forces to assist relief efforts in affected areas, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Agence France-Presse.
Heavy monsoon rains intensified by worsening climate conditions hit regions in Indonesia, Sri lanka, southern Thailand, and northern Malaysia last week. The floods cut off transportation routes and isolated hundreds of villages.
Indonesian President Prabowo subianto visited the disaster zones in North Sumatra and announced that the government has dispatched three warships and two hospital ships to deliver aid to flood-affected areas.
The recent flooding has claimed 502 lives in Indonesia so far, with more than 500 people reported missing.This is the deadliest natural disaster for the country since the 2018 earthquake and tsunami.
In Sri Lanka, authorities confirmed at least 340 deaths caused by floods and landslides triggered by Cyclone dethwa. The government has requested international assistance while military helicopters continue evacuations. The Sri Lankan president described these floods as the worst natural catastrophe in the nation’s history.
Meanwhile, at least 176 people have died due to recent floods in Thailand. In Malaysia, heavy rains have resulted in two fatalities.
