Afghanistan-Pakistan Border Clash Leaves Eight Dead or Wounded

A recent border skirmish between Afghanistan and Pakistan at the Chaman-Spin Boldak crossing has resulted in casualties on both sides, reigniting tensions after a brief ceasefire.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, renewed clashes along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border have left eight people dead or wounded. The incident occurred at the Chaman-Spin Boldak crossing, a known flashpoint between the two nations.

Afghan sources reported that four civilians were killed in the exchange of fire on Friday evening. Additionally, four others sustained injuries during the clash.

Local sources in Chaman, Pakistan, reported that three of the injured individuals have been discharged from medical care.

Both Afghanistan and Pakistan have accused each other of initiating the conflict, which erupted despite a ceasefire established following deadly clashes in October. Pakistani officials assert that the border shelling originated from the Afghan side.

Witnesses on the Afghan side of the border told Agence France-Presse that the exchange of fire commenced at approximately 10:30 PM and lasted for nearly two hours.

The October clashes were resolved through mediation efforts by Qatar and Turkey, leading to a ceasefire. However, subsequent negotiations in Doha and Istanbul failed to produce a lasting peace agreement, and the border between the neighboring countries remains closed.
