Iran and Qatar Pursue Strategic Partnership, Target Trade Volume Increase

According to the Economic Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iran and Qatar are strengthening their strategic partnership with a focus on dramatically increasing trade volume. The announcement was made at a ceremony in Tehran celebrating Qatar’s National Day.
The event was attended by foreign ambassadors and diplomats residing in Tehran, as well as Iranian political figures including former Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, Fars Governor Hosseinali Amiri, and former Iranian Ambassador to Qatar Hamidreza Dehghani.
Iranian Minister of Energy Abbas Aliabadi addressed Qatari Ambassador to Tehran Saad bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, congratulating him on Qatar’s National Day as a symbol of steadfast will for excellence, progress, and the preservation of human dignity.
Aliabadi emphasized that Qatar’s National Day is not merely a calendar event, but a manifestation of national self-confidence that has transformed the country into an influential player on the international stage.
The Minister of Energy praised Qatar’s governance model as a unique combination of authentic traditions and a modern vision, commending the country’s initiatives in mediation and humanitarian aid.
Aliabadi described the current relationship between Iran and Qatar as an exceptional period of constructive interaction, mutual trust, and expanding cooperation, supported by cultural, religious, and historical commonalities, neighborhood in the Persian Gulf, continuous trade cooperation, and political and security coordination.
Aliabadi cited high-level visits between the two countries, including Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Qatar in October 2024 and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim Al Thani’s visit to Iran in March 2024, as indicators of the depth and expansion of relations.
Providing statistics, Aliabadi highlighted the growth of trade between the two countries in recent years, stating that trade increased from $200 million in 2023 to $310 million in 2024. He added that the trade volume in the first six months of 2025 reached $168 million, an 18% increase compared to the same period last year.
The head of the Iran-Qatar Joint Economic Cooperation Commission emphasized that this growth is the result of the leaders’ determination to deepen relations. Aliabadi also announced that the eleventh meeting of the Joint Cooperation Commission between the two countries will be held in Tehran in early February, expressing hope that it will open new horizons in relations.
In closing, Aliabadi reiterated the Islamic Republic of Iran’s full readiness to comprehensively expand cooperation with the government and people of Qatar in all areas of mutual agreement, according to Webangah News Agency.
