Solidarity with Palestine Displayed at Addis Ababa Event

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a solidarity event for the Palestinian people took place in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, drawing 140 diplomatic missions and several key political personalities. The event followed observances of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on November 29.
Among the diplomatic representatives, 19 Arab delegations were present, including Mohammed Omar, the Arab League’s representative to Ethiopia and the African Union, and Mahmoud Ali Youssef, head of the African Union Commission.
Youssef is the first head of the commission to participate in a solidarity event for the Palestinian people.
Farzin Aghabakian, Foreign Minister of the Palestinian Authority, along with Abubaker Cambo, the United Nations representative in Ethiopia, and the director of the Middle East and Asia Department at the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry, also attended.
In his opening address, the head of the African Union Commission stated that the event was taking place amidst a humanitarian catastrophe resulting from a “genocidal war in Gaza,” which has led to numerous civilian casualties and devastated vital infrastructure.
He emphasized that the African Union stands firmly with the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to live in an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Youssef added that global solidarity is not merely symbolic but a moral and legal obligation that requires the international community to end the killings, protect civilians, facilitate humanitarian corridors, and provide immediate aid to those affected.
He noted that the African Union would continue to collaborate with international partners to support renewed peace efforts, enhance accountability, and uphold international humanitarian law.
He underscored that resolving the Palestinian and Israeli conflict must be based on dialogue and international multilateralism, reflecting the global community’s commitment to justice and human dignity.
Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Farzin Aghabakian stated that the Palestinian people continue to strive for freedom, dignity, independence, and the right to self-determination, a struggle that represents the natural continuation of nations’ efforts for liberation.
He added that the suffering of Palestinians has been exacerbated by decades of occupation by the Israeli regime, reaching a peak in the recent killings in Gaza.
Aghabakian stressed that violations of Palestinian rights continue in the West Bank and Jerusalem by settlers and occupying forces, constituting a clear breach of international laws and UN resolutions.
He argued that solidarity with Palestine should not be an empty slogan but a real responsibility demonstrated through support for Palestinian rights, protecting children, families, and prisoners from violations, and ensuring a secure and dignified future for all Palestinians.
He affirmed that the spirit of the Palestinian people remains unbreakable despite all challenges.
Arab League representative Mohammed Omar, quoting the Secretary-General of the Arab League, noted that the Palestinian people, despite the most difficult circumstances, have resisted the “genocidal war” of the Israeli regime with steadfastness and courage. He said this war, over the past two years, has aimed at destroying Palestinian society and erasing the prospect of its independence.
Referring to the suffering of Palestinian children, the destruction of camps, and the displacement of thousands of Palestinian families, Omar added that Israel’s human rights violations reveal “savage faces without any moral compass.”
Omar emphasized that the plan to establish a Palestinian state remains alive despite all challenges, with 157 countries having recognized Palestine to date.
He said that every new international decision is a step towards realizing an independent Palestinian state, reconstruction, and ensuring the resilience and steadfastness of the Palestinian people in their land.
