Iraq-Syria Border Crossing Reopening Raises Security Concerns

The reopening of the Al-Walid border crossing between Iraq and Syria after 11 years is causing security concerns, with some fearing an increase in terrorist activity. U.S. pressure is cited as a factor in the decision to reopen the crossing.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the reopening of the Al-Walid border crossing between Iraq and Syria, which had been closed for 11 years, has raised concerns about a potential increase in terrorist infiltration into Iraq.

A security source in Al-Anbar province emphasized that the reopening of the border crossing is due to American pressure and poses significant risks. The source stated that the decision to reopen the border crossing, made under the directive of Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi armed forces, has shocked Iraqi security officials.

The source also stated that there are underlying intentions to destabilize Iraq and facilitate the entry of terrorists through the Al-Qaim and Al-Walid crossings.
