Cambodia-Thailand Border Clashes Result in Casualties, Displacement

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, renewed fighting between Cambodia and Thailand has resulted in significant casualties and displacement.
Net Pheaktra, Cambodia’s Minister of Information, stated that 12 people have been killed and 74 injured in clashes with Thailand over the past week, despite a ceasefire agreement. Minister Pheaktra also highlighted the extensive displacement, noting that over 400,000 people have been forced to leave their homes due to the ongoing conflict.
Thailand and Cambodia, both located in Southeast Asia and sharing an 817-kilometer border, have a long-standing territorial dispute.
Earlier, the press unit of the Thai Armed Forces issued a statement asserting Bangkok’s commitment to peaceful resolution with Phnom Penh. The statement expressed Thailand’s readiness to cooperate with independent international organizations, including the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The Thai Armed Forces’ statement accused Cambodia of targeting civilian areas and hospitals, thereby violating international humanitarian law. The statement further clarified that Bangkok’s military actions were conducted within the framework of self-defense, adhering to principles of necessity, proportionality, and distinction, and were solely directed at military objectives.
