Israeli Analyst: Iran’s Hack of Bennett’s Phone Puts Israel in a Difficult Position

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israeli analyst Avi Ashkenazi contends that Iran‘s successful hack of former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s mobile phone has placed Israel, particularly its internal security apparatus, in a precarious position. The breach was reportedly executed by the “Hanzalah” hacking group.
Ashkenazi emphasized that Bennett, as a former prime minister, was under the protection of Unit 730, responsible for safeguarding high-profile individuals within Shabak. He argued that Shabak’s efforts to distance itself from the scandal are futile, as the agency is ultimately responsible for the security of those it protects, leaving no room for negligence. He concluded that Shabak, under the leadership of David Zini, has failed in its duty.
Furthermore, Ashkenazi stated that the issue extends beyond Bennett’s phone, suggesting a broader, coordinated Iranian effort to infiltrate Israel through various means, including cyberattacks targeting Israeli objectives. He criticized Israel’s handling of these developments, asserting that the security establishment must change its approach.
Ashkenazi warned that if Iranian hackers could compromise Bennett’s phone today, they might successfully infiltrate Israel’s strategic systems tomorrow, potentially with devastating consequences. Reports from Channel 12 News two days prior had claimed that Iranian hackers had indeed hacked Bennett’s phone, releasing thousands of private numbers, images, and conversations related to Bennett’s inner circles.
