Iraqi Official Warns of US Plans to Reactivate ISIS Cells in Western Iraq Amid Political Tensions

Aqil al-Ridaini, a member of Iraq’s Al-Nasr Coalition, has accused the US of threatening to revive ISIS activities in western Iraq if Nouri al-Maliki is nominated for prime minister, warning of potential security chaos orchestrated by Washington.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Aqil al-Ridaini, a prominent figure in Iraq‘s Al-Nasr Coalition, issued a stark warning on Wednesday about the United States’ alleged plans to reactivate ISIS cells in western Iraq. The move, he claimed, is a direct response to the potential nomination of Nouri al-Maliki for prime minister by the Coordination Framework.

Al-Ridaini emphasized that the pressure exerted by US President Donald Trump has crossed all red lines. He described recent American threats regarding the prime ministerial selection as part of a sinister agenda to destabilize Iraq’s internal affairs.

The Iraqi official stated that Washington has openly threatened to reignite the ISIS file and trigger renewed chaos if the Coordination Framework proceeds with al-Maliki’s candidacy. He condemned the use of terrorism as a political pressure tactic, calling it a blatant American strategy against national sovereignty.

Al-Ridaini urged members of the Coordination Framework to respond firmly to Trump’s statements and prevent the White House from dictating Iraq’s political roadmap through security threats. He characterized any effort to mobilize terrorists at this critical juncture as an attempt to weaken Iraq and force compliance with foreign demands.

The warning comes amid escalating tensions with the Trump administration, with intelligence reports linking accelerated developments in Syria to US political pressure on Baghdad. These reports suggest that the escape of hundreds of terrorists from SDF prisons is being viewed as a ticking time bomb, potentially used to pressure Iraqi governments that resist Washington’s demands.
