Syria Asserts Security Talks with Israel Do Not Negate Its Rights Amid Ongoing Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Syria‘s UN representative, Ibrahim al-Alabi, stated during a Security Council meeting on Middle East developments that Israel is delusional if it believes Syria’s participation in security talks implies relinquishing its rights. Alabi accused Israel of attempting to destabilize Syria through false narratives, but affirmed that Syrians are aware of such plots.
Alabi dismissed Israel’s security claims regarding borders and protective walls as baseless, reiterating that the Golan Heights remains Syrian territory under illegal occupation. He called for an end to Israel’s presence in the buffer zone since January 8, 2024, and highlighted the UN’s UNDOF peacekeepers’ role in monitoring violations.
The remarks followed Israeli artillery strikes on Daraa and Quneitra suburbs late Thursday, part of ongoing incursions, arrests, and farm destruction in southern Syria. These actions persist despite a January 6 U.S.-mediated communication mechanism agreement to reduce military tensions. Israel has occupied Syria’s Golan Heights since 1967 and expanded into the buffer zone after December 2024 developments.
