Japan Winter Storm Death Toll Rises to 45 Amid Widespread Infrastructure Damage

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, new statistics released by Japan’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency detail the escalating damage caused by the recent severe winter storm and heavy snow across the nation.
The official report confirms that the number of fatalities resulting from this natural disaster has reached 45, with the count of injured individuals nearing 600. Authorities indicated that the condition of 126 of the injured is currently assessed as critical.
Beyond the human cost, the adverse conditions have inflicted extensive damage to foundational infrastructure. Reports confirm the complete destruction of at least 14 residential units, while approximately 1,700 homes are currently without electricity.
Widespread transportation disruptions persist throughout the affected regions. Rail services on most lines have been halted, and numerous main roadways remain impassable, significantly complicating ongoing search and rescue operations.
Local officials have issued urgent warnings regarding secondary hazards, advising that the expected rise in temperatures and subsequent melting of massive accumulated snow volumes create a high probability of avalanches in mountainous and vulnerable areas.
Many of the victims succumbing to this intense winter storm were reportedly individuals who suffered fatal falls while attempting to clear snow from around their residences.
The intensity of the snowfall was extreme in certain parts of Japan, where accumulated snow depth reportedly exceeded two meters in localized areas.
