German Chancellor Friedrich Merz Approval Rating Plunges Five Points to 23 Percent

New polling data reveals a significant decline in public support for German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, with only 23 percent of citizens now approving of his performance, marking a five-point drop in just two weeks. The nationwide survey also shows the far-right Alternative for Germany party surpassing the ruling Christian Union coalition in voter preference.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the latest public opinion survey conducted by the ‘Insa’ sociological institute indicates a sharp decline in the popularity of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The findings, which were published in the *Bild* newspaper, suggest widespread dissatisfaction among the German electorate.

The poll results indicate that a substantial 67 percent of German citizens expressed dissatisfaction with the Chancellor’s performance in office. Conversely, only 23 percent of respondents stated they were satisfied with his work, representing a five percentage point decrease compared to the results from two weeks prior. Furthermore, 10 percent of those surveyed declined to offer an opinion on the matter.

Public assessment of the overall performance of the ruling coalition government in Germany is also worsening. The survey found that 68 percent of respondents voiced discontent with the coalition’s efforts, while only 22 percent registered satisfaction with the government’s overall trajectory.

The assessment of political parties also yielded notable shifts in support. The governing ‘Christian Democratic Union-Christian Social Union’ alliance secured 25 percent of the votes among German respondents. Significantly, the far-right ‘Alternative for Germany’ (AfD) party garnered 26 percent of the vote, placing it ahead of the ruling coalition in this specific polling snapshot.

Other key parties measured in the survey included the ‘Social Democratic Party,’ which registered 16 percent support. The Green Party obtained 11 percent of the vote, and the Left Party secured 10 percent.
