Iraq Reaffirms Support for Iran-US Negotiations Ahead of Geneva Talks

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday evening that Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed the latest developments concerning the negotiations between Iran and the United States, including forthcoming actions, during a conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi.
The discussion focused on the path of the ongoing talks between Tehran and Washington. According to Shafaq News, the next session of negotiations between the two nations is scheduled to take place on Tuesday in Geneva, Switzerland.
During the call, Fuad Hussein received a comprehensive briefing from the Iranian official regarding the negotiation process, covering the general atmosphere and the topics addressed, particularly the outcomes of the recent round of discussions held in Oman, which the Iranian side had previously characterized as ‘positive and serious.’
Both ministers emphasized the importance of continuing these discussions to achieve constructive results that would bolster regional stability. The Iraqi Foreign Minister specifically stressed the necessity of attaining positive outcomes at the upcoming meeting in Geneva, declaring Iraq’s complete support for the negotiation process and expressing hope for its success in securing regional security and stability.
The statement, quoting the Iraqi Foreign Minister, also noted that Hussein informed his Iranian counterpart about actions undertaken by the Baghdad government concerning the transfer of ISIS detainees from Syria to Iraq. He confirmed that these individuals are currently under the control of Iraqi authorities and will be dealt with strictly according to Iraqi law.
In concluding the call, the Iraqi Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to his Iranian counterpart for providing detailed updates on the current discussions between Tehran and Washington and for maintaining continued communication on the matter.
