Obama Slams Lack of Decorum in US Politics After Monkey Depiction Incident

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, former U.S. President Barack Obama has strongly condemned the rudeness and lack of courtesy prevalent in the American political arena. To illustrate his point, he referenced a video posted by Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform, which portrayed Obama and his wife Michelle as monkeys.
The video, released on February 5, 2025, drew negative reactions from members of both the Democratic and Republican parties in the United States. The White House initially dismissed the issue as “baseless fuss” but later stated that the video’s publication was an accidental error by a staff member.
In an interview with political podcast host Brian Tyler Cohen, Obama stated, “Most Americans find this kind of behavior very concerning.”
He added that such videos could weaken support for Trump in midterm elections, with the ultimate response from the American people yet to be determined.
Obama emphasized that these videos exemplify a deficit in politeness, respect, and decency within the political sphere.
Trump, speaking to reporters, reiterated his claims of fraud in the 2020 election, which the video alluded to, but denied watching it. In the same interview, Obama also commented on the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Minnesota, comparing their conduct to that seen in dictatorial regimes.
The former U.S. President, referring to two fatal shootings that occurred during these operations and increased pressure to halt them, remarked, “The aberrant behavior of federal agents is concerning and dangerous.”
