US Southern Command Chief Meets Interim Venezuelan President in Caracas

General Francisco L. ‘Frank’ Donovan, Commander of the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), held a meeting with Delcy Rodríguez, Venezuela’s interim president, in Caracas to discuss security matters. This encounter marks the first high-level meeting between SOUTHCOM leadership and Venezuelan officials since President Nicolás Maduro’s alleged detention by Washington.
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, General Francisco L. “Frank” Donovan, Commander of the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), met with Delcy Rodríguez, Venezuela‘s interim president, in Caracas. This meeting is considered the first engagement between the SOUTHCOM commander and Venezuelan government officials following the reported detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by Washington.
The U.S. Embassy in Venezuela stated that the purpose of the meeting was to assess security issues. In addition to Rodríguez, Donovan also held consultations with Venezuela’s Minister of Defense and Minister of the Interior.
