Gaza Referral Committee Urges WHO to Establish Mechanism for Evacuating Injured and Sick

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the National Committee for Referral of Patients and Injured in Gaza has called upon the World Health Organization to intervene immediately to establish a clear and binding mechanism for the urgent evacuation of patients and the injured from Gaza. The committee emphasized that the continued travel ban threatens the lives of thousands, representing approximately 22,000 injured individuals on referral lists, with 5,000 requiring immediate evacuation. Additionally, 8,000 medical travel cases for cancer patients have been registered.
The report highlights that at least one patient dies daily due to the inability to leave Gaza. The total number of injured in the Gaza Strip is close to 200,000, with 20,000 having undergone amputations and requiring advanced prosthetics and rehabilitation treatment. The committee has urged Egyptian authorities to intervene and open the Rafah crossing through an immediate humanitarian mechanism. International mediators and the World Peace Council have also been requested to exert pressure to facilitate travel for critical cases out of the region.
The statement underscored that the Rafah crossing is the sole land passage for over two million Palestinians, and the current travel procedures have become a “slow death sentence” for patients.
