China Warns of Further U.S. Tariffs Amid Trade Probe Continuation

According to the Economic Desk of Webangah News Agency, China issued a warning regarding potential new U.S. tariffs on Wednesday, following the U.S. Trade Representative’s announcement of continued investigations into further tariff measures. Beijing stated it has fulfilled its obligations under Section 301 of the Unfair Trade Practices Act.
A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce indicated that Beijing reached an agreement with the U.S. concerning this law in 2020. The spokesperson added in a statement, “China hopes the U.S. will not shirk responsibility or create problems but will instead see the agreement implemented.”
U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai’s office announced last week that its investigation under Section 301, which includes China, Brazil, and other nations, will continue. This investigation could lead to tariffs if unfair trade practices are identified.
A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that China is willing to cooperate with the U.S. through the economic and trade consultation mechanisms between the two countries. The spokesperson further remarked, “If the U.S. insists on advancing the investigation and implementing restrictive measures, Beijing will defend its rights and interests.”
