Iran’s Foreign Minister Details Leader’s Martyrdom, Cites Turning Point

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi recounted the moments of Imam Sayyid Ali Khamenei’s martyrdom during an attack, describing it as a pivotal moment that demonstrated Iran’s strength to the world.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Abbas Araghchi, Iran‘s Foreign Minister, stated in an exclusive interview with Al Mayadeen television network that he was in the office of the leader at the time of the attack that led to the martyrdom of Imam Sayyid Ali Khamenei. This event, he explained, marked a significant turning point in Iran’s history.

Araghchi further detailed his account to Al Mayadeen, explaining that on Saturday, February 27th, at 9 AM, he arrived at the leader’s office to present his report following his return from Geneva negotiations. His report concerned the ongoing negotiations and the heightened possibility of war discussed on Friday. The building they were in was targeted, but their specific section remained intact.

He recalled his immediate concern: “The first question that came to my mind and my first worry was, what is the leader’s condition? I felt that, based on normal work routine, the leader would surely be in his office. Despite the high probability of war, the martyr leader’s spirit prevented him from going to shelters.” While they were emerging from the rubble, his sole focus was on whether the leader had been targeted.

The Foreign Minister emphasized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ efforts to convey the plight and legitimacy of the Iranian people to the global community. “On the first and second day, I was extremely worried about what had happened to the leader, until the news of his martyrdom was confirmed,” Araghchi stated. “What happened will never be forgotten, and it is a wound on our hearts that may never heal.”

Araghchi noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s system is stronger than to be dependent on individuals. “The structures of the system are active, and a new leader was chosen, with the young Khamenei succeeding the martyr leader,” he said.

He also reflected on his personal anxieties during the bombing: “At the moment of the bombing, my concern for the Supreme Leader was so great that I was not worried about myself at all.” He reiterated that the martyrdom of the leader transformed into a turning point in Iran’s history, a moment that showcased Iran’s power to the entire world. “This development was contrary to their expectations, as they believed this event would become a point of weakness and the collapse of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Araghchi concluded. “This transformation occurred thanks to the blood of the martyr leader and other martyrs.”
