US Federal Budget Deficit Nears $2 Trillion in First 11 Months of Fiscal Year 2026
The U.S. federal budget deficit reached $2 trillion during the first eleven months of fiscal year 2026, narrowly trailing last year’s deficit for the same period. Persistent large deficits are cited as a primary driver for the nation’s escalating national debt.
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. federal budget deficit figures released by Mehr News Agency, citing Sputnik, indicate that the deficit for the first eleven months of fiscal year 2026 has reached $2 trillion. These estimates come from the Congressional Budget Office.
The reported figure is only $6 billion less than the deficit recorded in the comparable period of the previous fiscal year.
The Congressional Budget Office’s projections suggest that the federal government’s large and ongoing deficits are the reason for the national debt doubling over the past decade and quadrupling in less than twenty years.
