Prominent US Academics Urge UK to Lift Ban on Palestine Action Group
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, dozens of American professors and academics have signed an open letter to the UK Prime Minister, urging him to end an “indefensible” ban on the Palestine Action group. The letter was released in anticipation of the Labour Party’s conference in Liverpool.
The signatories emphasized their duty to do everything possible to prevent genocide. They called upon the Prime Minister to immediately lift the ban on Palestine Action, drop politically motivated accusations against the group’s members and supporters, and cease prosecuting non-violent protesters as if they were terrorists.
The Palestine Action group was outlawed as a “terrorist” organization in 2025 during the premiership of Keir Starmer. The group had previously engaged in actions against military companies linked to Israel, including blocking building entrances and splashing paint.
In their letter, the activists described Palestine Action as a “non-violent, direct-action group” whose stated objective, according to the signatories, is “saving lives and preventing genocide.” Notable signatories include feminist philosopher Judith Butler, author and researcher Rashid Khalidi, and political scientist Norman Finkelstein.
Concurrently with the Labour Party conference in Liverpool, pro-Palestinian demonstrators have gathered around the venue, demanding an end to UK arms sales to Israel and the imposition of further sanctions against the Israeli regime.
