New York Declares State of Emergency Over Measles Outbreak

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, New York State has declared a state of emergency following an increase in measles cases. This declaration, reported by Russia Today and citing Reuters, aims to address the growing public health concern.
As of October 3, 2026, New York has recorded 108 measles cases since the beginning of the year. The state of emergency grants nurses the authority to prescribe tests for individuals suspected of having measles and allows pharmacists to vaccinate children up to two years old.
Furthermore, all MMR vaccinations must be reported to the New York State or City vaccination registries within 72 hours. This emergency measure took effect on Monday and will remain in place until November 4, 2026.
Neighboring Pennsylvania is also experiencing a rapid increase in measles cases, having registered 977 infections and five deaths as of October 2.
