US Secretary of State Urges G20 to Secure Shipping Lanes Amid Geopolitical Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on the social media platform X that at the G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting, he explicitly underscored that maritime security and food security are fundamental pillars of economic security.
The head of American diplomacy further noted that in implementing the ‘America First’ strategy, the United States calls on its partner countries to strive for the protection of maritime routes, the strengthening of food security, and the mitigation of the economic impacts of geopolitical challenges. This comes as Washington’s aggressive actions against Iran are identified as a primary cause of insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and disruptions to energy and food supply chains.
The G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting is scheduled for October 30 and 31, 2026, hosted by the United States in Atlanta, Georgia. The summit, led by the U.S. Secretary of State, will address issues such as obstacles to the global economy, energy and food security, the safeguarding of shipping lanes, improving supply chains, and the economic consequences of geopolitical unrest.
This international gathering is taking place amidst significant disagreements among G20 member states regarding the conflict in Ukraine, developments in West Asia, and relations with Russia, casting a long shadow over global cooperation efforts.
It is noteworthy that the G20 is recognized as an international mechanism for dialogue and synergy on major global economic challenges, comprising 19 countries alongside the European Union and the African Union. Furthermore, the G20 Leaders’ Summit is planned to be held on December 14 and 15, 2026, in Miami, USA.
