According to Reuters, citing Pakistani media, this sentence was determined by a court that called their marriage in 2018 a violation of the law.
This is the third sentence against the former prime minister of Pakistan in the last few days and on the eve of Thursday’s elections, in which he has been banned from participating.
The 71-year-old Khan was previously sentenced to 10 years for revealing state secrets and 14 years with his wife for illegally selling government gifts. .
Imran Khan was removed from the prime ministership in April 2022 following a vote of no confidence by the Pakistani parliament, and then Shahbaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif’s brother, succeeded him.
