This is the first visit of the Foreign Minister of Sudan to Tehran after the termination of relations between the two countries in 2014. Following the attack on the Saudi embassy in Tehran and the consulate general of this country in Mashhad in January 2015, which led to the one-way severing of Saudi Arabia’s relations with Iran, Sudan followed Saudi Arabia’s decision to cut diplomatic relations with Iran.
The Islamic Republic of Iran and Sudan announced in a joint statement on October 17 that they will resume their diplomatic relations.
The statement said: The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Sudan, following the contacts between the high officials of the two sides in recent months, decided to maintain their diplomatic relations in order to serve the interests of the two countries. take over According to the statement, the two governments agreed to develop friendly relations based on mutual respect for sovereignty, equality, common interests and peaceful coexistence. The two sides also agreed to expand their cooperation in various fields that can realize the interests of the nations of the two countries and ensure the security and stability of the region. The two sides agreed to take the necessary measures to open the embassies of the two countries in the near future and make the necessary arrangements for the exchange of official delegations to examine ways to expand cooperation between the two countries.
