Italy: Ukraine is dangerous for NATO
Italy's foreign minister said at the Munich security meeting that his country believes that NATO should act "carefully" regarding Ukraine. |
reported by Mehr News Agency quoted by Rashatoudi, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced that accepting Ukraine’s membership in NATO while the country is engaged in a war with Russia is “dangerous for everyone” and may lead to a lead to world war.
Tajani said: NATO is trying to join Ukraine, but it should act cautiously and instead of making hasty decisions, pave the way to achieve these goals.
In response to a question about Ukraine joining the bloc, the foreign minister said: “Frankly, it’s dangerous for everyone because then you have to be a full member of NATO with Russia fight and this means World War III.
He said: “We want to support you, but NATO rules are very clear – if there is an attack against a NATO member, it will trigger NATO’s intervention, and that’s why we We have to be careful.”
NATO first announced that Ukraine will join this alliance in 2008. After the Western-backed coup in Kiev in 2014, Ukraine increased engagement with the alliance and included NATO membership as a strategic goal in its constitution in 2017. This country had officially applied to join NATO in the fall of 2022.
