The European Union officially launched its mission in the Red Sea

The Council of Europe announced today, Monday, that it has launched its maritime operation aimed at restoring the security of transit through the Red Sea.

The Council of Europe announced today, Monday, that it has started its maritime operation with the aim of restoring the security of transit through the Red Sea due to the continuous attacks of Yemen’s Ansarullah on commercial ships in the region.

The European Union’s mission will be “along the main sea lines of communication in the Strait of Bab al-Mandab and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as international waters in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf.” In addition, the group will closely cooperate with the bloc’s anti-piracy military operations in the Indian Ocean to strengthen maritime security in the Red Sea and the Western Indian Ocean.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said: This operation will play a key role in protecting commercial and security interests for the sake of the EU and the wider international community.

Earlier, an EU official said that the EU plans to launch the Aspides (Greek for shield) maritime mission “in a few weeks” with at least four ships.

According to EU officials, the overall command of this mission will be in the hands of Greece and an Italian official will be in control of the naval operation.

So far, France, Germany, Italy and Belgium have said that they plan to send their ships to this sea. The duration of this mission has been set for one year, and the European Union has said that its purpose is to protect civilian ships in the Red Sea and does not intend to attack Yemeni soil.
The United States claims to have created a naval coalition to counter Yemeni army operations in the Red Sea, but France, Spain and Italy, confirming their withdrawal from the coalition, have refused to hand over their warships to the command of the United States, and the only country The Arab that agreed to join it was Bahrain. America and England have carried out attacks against Yemen in recent weeks.

The forces of the Yemeni army have pledged to continue attacking the ships of this regime or the ships bound for the occupied territories in the Red Sea until the Israeli regime stops its attacks on Gaza.
