Rising disagreement in the British House of Commons over Gaza
Scottish lawmakers are considering leaving the House of Commons in the wake of chaos over Gaza. |
The Scottish National Party’s deputy leader said the party should reconsider its withdrawal from Westminster after chaos over the Gaza plan.
There were angry scenes in the House of Commons last week after Speaker Sir Lynsay Hoyle decided to allow a debate on a Labor amendment to the Scottish National Party’s motion calling for a ceasefire, according to the newspaper.
The Speaker apologized to MPs and then offered another debate to the Scottish National Party, which had failed to vote for his proposal in the first place, but the request for Monday’s debate was rejected.
Keith Brown, deputy leader of the Scottish National Party, wrote in the Sunday National newspaper: Marginalizing or suppressing Scotland in St. Westminster (the English House of Commons) is nothing new.
He added that the reaction of some Labor MPs to the handling of the proposed Gaza plan raises concerns about how Scotland will be treated if Labor wins the next general election.
Reports indicate that the leader of the British opposition party, which opposes a complete ceasefire in Gaza along with the London government, had instructed the representatives of this party to oppose the proposal of the Scottish National Party.
