The Prime Minister of Haiti submitted his resignation
The intensification of the conflict between criminal gangs and the Haitian police and the disruption of people's lives caused the Prime Minister of this country to submit his resignation. |
Irfan Ali, the head of the Caribbean and Guyana Community, announced that Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry has submitted his resignation from his position, which he held after the assassination of the country’s last president in 2021.
According to the Reuters report, he thanked Henry for his service to Haiti and said: “We will accept his resignation when a transitional presidential council is formed and an interim prime minister is appointed.”
Henry traveled to Kenya late last month to ensure the country led a UN-backed international security mission to help police fight armed gangs, but the escalation of violence in the capital Port-au-Prince during His absence made him return to his country.
Ali said the presidential council would include observers and seven voting members, including representatives of several coalitions, the private sector, civil society and a religious leader. He added: The Council has undertaken the task of appointing an interim prime minister quickly, and anyone who intends to participate in the upcoming Haitian elections cannot take this position.
Henry’s resignation comes after regional leaders met in Jamaica on Monday to discuss a framework for a political transition. The heads of the region discussed with the representatives of different sectors of the Haitian society about the establishment of this council, which aims to pave the way for the first elections since 2016.
Hanri, who many Haitians consider corrupt, has repeatedly postponed elections, saying security must be established first. This is while Jimmy Cherize, nicknamed the barbecue leader of a criminal gang that organized the escape plan of thousands of prisoners from the Haitian prison on March 6, previously announced that if the prime minister does not resign, Haiti will either be heaven or hell for everyone.
