The mystery of the sudden resignation of the Irish Prime Minister after a stormy speech in the White House
The Irish Prime Minister resigned a few days after supporting Palestine in front of the American President. |
Leo Varadkar, the Prime Minister of Ireland, suddenly resigned from his position a few days after returning from America; An action that started speculations in political circles as well as social networks.
The story started when 45-year-old Varadkar, in his speech at the White House on Sunday, on the occasion of St. Patrick’s Day, while US President Joe Biden was standing next to him, referred to a history full of people’s suffering. His country paid for independence from England and connected it to the Palestinian issue.
Varadkar said: “The people of Ireland are deeply concerned about the tragedy unfolding before our eyes in Gaza. When I travel around the world, leaders often ask me why the Irish have so much empathy for the Palestinian people. The answer is simple: we see our history through their eyes. The story of displacement and dispossession, national identity questioned and denied, forced migration, discrimination and now hunger”.
After meeting with Biden at the White House, he said: “I think none of us would like to see American weapons used in this way. The way they are currently being used is not self-defense”.
Varadkar, however, announced on Wednesday in a sudden decision that he would resign from his position for “personal and political” reasons.
Following this decision, social media users linked the issue of resignation to Varadkar’s stormy words in the White House and the pressure of the Zionist lobby to remove him from power.
Many Arabic language users praised the position of the resigned Prime Minister of Ireland in support of Palestine and said, “The position of the Irish is more honorable than the position of many Arabs who see the suffering of Muslims, but are silent”.
“Laura Rowe” writer and researcher based in Hong Kong also wrote: “On March 17, Varadkar met with Biden in Washington and resigned three days later. The Zionist lobby, like the mafia, is looking for anyone who dares to oppose it”.
