Politico revealed: Europol’s wandering in the security breach case
The disappearance of sensitive cases of high-ranking EU police officers has caused a serious crisis in this agency. |
According to Politico magazine, last summer a number of sensitive files of executive officials of the “European Union Police Agency” (Europol) were supposed to be kept in the agency’s headquarters in The Hague. , are missing.
According to an internal agency report seen by Politico, the files contained the officers’ personal information, their conversations with current and former employees, and the personnel files of Catherine de Boll, Europol’s executive director, and three of her deputies.
Europol first learned about the disappearance of a number of sensitive files on September 6 (15 Shahrivar), and in the investigations that followed, the disappearance of a large number of similar files was revealed.
Europol’s internal report in September stated: Considering Europol’s position as a law enforcement agency, the loss of personal files of its employees is considered a serious breach of security and personal data.
Europol is one of the branches of the European Union that is responsible for entering international cases and operations in cooperation with the national police of countries and institutions such as “International Police” (Interpol) and “Federal Police of America” (FBI).
Some of the missing files were found in a public place in The Hague and handed over to the police by a citizen. Following this incident, Massimiliano Bettin, Europol’s head of human resources and a former Italian police officer, has been sent on administrative leave and public access to this Europol unit has been suspended.
These files were kept in a safe in one of the rooms of the Europol building, which few people have access to.
One of the scenarios under consideration is that the missing files were done to harm Bettin’s position.
