United Nations: 70% of the people of northern Gaza are facing catastrophic hunger

The Office of the Secretary General of the United Nations announced on Wednesday that about 70% of the population of the northern Gaza Strip is facing catastrophic hunger.

According to the UN Secretary-General’s office, restrictions and ongoing conflicts in the Gaza Strip have hampered the delivery of humanitarian aid to northern Gaza.

Beth Bechdahl, a member of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, previously announced that during the 20 years that reports on food security published, this level of deterioration of food security in Gaza is unprecedented.

This UN official noted that the report on severe lack of food security has three levels. Level 3 is considered a crisis, level 4 is considered an emergency, and level 5 is considered a disaster that may lead to famine.

Currently, one million and one hundred thousand people, equivalent to half of the population of Gaza, are in the category of “5 degree exposure”, to This means that these households are facing a severe lack of food and are not able to provide more of their basic needs.
