Reactions to Russia’s veto of the Security Council resolution against North Korea

The United States and South Korea strongly criticized Russia's action in vetoing the resolution extending the monitoring of the UN Security Council's Committee of Experts on North Korea sanctions.

report Mehr News Agency, according to France 24, following Russia’s action to veto the UN Security Council resolution to extend the supervision of the committee of experts of this body on international sanctions against Pyongyang. America and South Korea reacted sharply.

Russia vetoed this resolution while the UN expert panel announced a few weeks ago that it was investigating the reports of arms exchange. It is between Moscow and Pyongyang.

Except for China, which chose to abstain instead of joining Russia in vetoing the resolution, the rest of the members agreed to extend the delegation’s supervision. Experts voted in favor.

Russia’s decision brought a lot of criticism. South Korea’s foreign ministry described Russia’s decision as a permanent member of the Security Council as “irresponsible”.

The United States called Russia’s veto “a self-interested attempt to cover up reports related to Moscow’s collusion with North Korea.”

Matty Miller, the spokesperson of the US State Department, claimed: Today, Russia is seeking to undermine international peace and security with its self-interested actions. All these actions are aimed at promoting the corrupt trade that Moscow has started with North Korea.

Dmitry Kolba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, has also described this action of Russia as a “confession of guilt” on social networks. In recent months, there have been accusations against Pyongyang of helping Moscow in its war with Kiev. Moscow and Pyongyang have strongly denied accusations of cooperation and arms exchange.
