Oxfam: Palestinians live on a can of beans a day
The international aid organization Oxfam says that each Palestinian receives only 12 percent of his daily calorie needs. |
The aid organization “Oxfam” announced that Palestinians in northern Gaza are trying to survive on less than a can of beans a day, which is equivalent to 245 calories.
According to West Asia Eye, this report shows that each Palestinian receives only 12% of his daily calorie needs.
Amitabh Behar, executive director of Oxfam, declared: “Israel is deliberately starving the Palestinians.” Oxfam says at least 221 trucks of food must enter Gaza every day to prevent famine. This is despite the fact that the average number of food trucks that enter this blockade is about 105 trucks per day.
Oxfam’s report is published as famine hits Gaza. The United Nations has warned that famine is “imminent” in the north of this region. Meanwhile, an American official announced on Friday that famine has probably already started in some northern parts of Gaza.
So far, at least 27 children have died due to malnutrition and lack of water in this besieged area.
Gaza’s famine, caused by the destruction of food infrastructure (such as bakeries and flour factories), has been exacerbated by the imposition of a severe blockade and the prevention of humanitarian aid.
