NATO defended Ukraine’s cross-border operations against Russia
The NATO secretary general said that Kiev has the right to attack targets outside Ukraine that are considered "legitimate". |
In a press conference about Ukraine’s attacks on Russian ships in the Baltic Sea, Jens Stoltenberg said: I don’t have a specific recommendation about whether or not Ukraine will attack any type of targets.
He continued that this issue is related to “the right of self-defense to attack legitimate military targets” outside a country.
Stoltenberg stated: Russia uses various capabilities to attack Ukraine, and Ukraine has the right to defend itself. This issue will also include legitimate military goals outside of Ukraine.
In the meantime, reports indicate that Russia is ready to strengthen its forces against Ukraine.
Ukrainian ground forces commander Alexander Pavlyuk announced in March that more than 100,000 Russian troops are preparing for a possible attack this summer.
Ukraine’s army commander added: “This will not necessarily be offensive, indicating that Russia may be completing units.”
Ukraine is facing a shortage of ammunition, exacerbated by a deadlock in the US Congress over a new aid package. But Kiev hopes to finally receive enough ammunition to confront Russia.
