According to the news agency “Anatolia” said the spokesman of the Chinese military command: “On Saturday, the missile destroyer Hopper entered China’s territorial waters in the Shisha islands illegally and without Chinese approval. following this exercise, the Chinese army announced that it is on alert at the same time as the three-day joint air and naval patrols of the United States and the Philippines in the South China Sea.
Territorial disputes in the South China Sea include claims to sea islands in the region by several countries, including China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam.
The spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed that the situation in the region is usually complicated by the passage of American warships that violate international laws and undermine China’s sovereignty and security.

The Chinese government recently released a new (2023) version of its “standard map” showing disputed areas. The map featured a “9-dash line” indicating China’s claims to most of the South China Sea. Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines are involved in the conflict over these areas to varying degrees.
