The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada imposed a new round of sanctions against Russia on the pretext of the death of Alexei Navalny, the face of the Kremlin opposition.

According to the Reuters news agency, in a statement on Sunday, Melanie Joly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, said: According to the new round of sanctions, 6 people, including senior officials and high-ranking judicial staff, The prosecutor’s office and the affairs of Russian prisons are targeted.

Earlier, the eight European Union countries in a letter to Josep Burrell, the head of the foreign policy of this institution, demanded sanctions against the Russian judicial authorities.

This letter was signed by the foreign ministers of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Sweden and Romania, and the Netherlands, France, Ireland and Denmark also supported it.

This letter states: “The death of Alexei Navalny is a sign of systematic and accelerated repression in Russia.” This issue requires collective action. We believe that considering this situation, there is a strong justification for imposing separate sanctions against Russia”.

Navalny, a well-known critic of the Russian government, who was serving his sentence in a prison in the Yamalo-Nenets region of Russia, died on February 25, 1402, and was buried in Borisov Cemetery in Moscow on March 11.

Navalny and his supporters believed that this case, like the previous accusations, was politically motivated and its purpose was to keep him away from politics for a longer period of time.
