The replacement of Imamoglu will be appointed Wednesday

Imamoglu, the renowned mayor of Turkey’s largest city, was officially arrested yesterday and was arrested on charges of establishing and leading a criminal organization, bribery, abuse, illegal personal information and collusion in bidding. Imam Oglu has denied these charges. He is currently in prison in the Silivari area west of Istanbul.
Istanbul Governor, which is a separate institution from the Istanbul Municipality under the supervision of the Turkish Ministry of Interior, announced that the Istanbul Metropolitan Council will meet on Wednesday to appoint Imamoglu.
Imamoglu was elected mayor of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan last year as a second mayor of Istanbul after defeating a rival from the ruling Justice and Development Party, led by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
the Turkish Interior Ministry had earlier issued a statement that he had temporarily suspended Imamoglu. The Ministry of Interior has also temporarily suspended five other Istanbul municipal officials. Imamoglu’s arrest has brought a wide wave of national protests in Türkiye.
Republican People’s Party’s preliminary elections were held as the most important competitor of the ruling party in Türkiye yesterday. The party’s nominee is nominated for the next presidential election. The Turkish People’s Republican Party today nominated Imamoglu as the main candidate in the upcoming presidential election.
