Zelensky: Crimea Is Not Up for Negotiation
Ukrainian President Says Country Will Do “Whatever” allies Ask But Cannot Recognize Crimea’s Annexation by Russia
According to a report by the English section of Webangah News agency, citing Mehr News Agency and France 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine cannot agree to the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula by russia as one of the potential conditions for a peace agreement.
During his visit to South Africa, Zelensky responded to a question about Kyiv’s stance on ceasefire negotiations, saying: “We will do whatever our allies propose, but we cannot fulfill any demand that contradicts our constitution.”
The American website Axios previously reported in an article that the U.S.side “expects Ukraine to accept a peace framework under which america woudl recognize Crimea as part of Russia and informally acknowledge…”This country accepts nearly all territories liberated by Moscow and must respond.”
donald Trump, the U.S. president, also wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, that Zelenskyy’s remarks about Kyiv not recognizing Crimea as part of Russian territory are detrimental to negotiations as the peninsula was lost years ago during the presidency of Barack Obama, the then-U.S. president, and is no longer even a topic for debate.
Zelenskyy added: “We have been attacked and our country is occupied. People—young and old—are being buried alive. The fact that we are ready to sit at the negotiating table with terrorists under such conditions means we have already made a major concession!”
These statements come as Zelenskyy today reported another large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine.
