EU Continues Intercepting Russian-Linked Oil Tankers, Cites Vital Ukraine War Funding

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, stated on Monday via the social media platform X that the illicit sale of oil from vessels in the so-called “shadow fleet” is a critical lifeline for Russia’s war in Ukraine, and the EU will continue to intercept these shipments.

Kallas elaborated on the EU’s actions, noting that the oil tanker MV SUN, suspected of sailing under a false flag and violating international maritime regulations, was intercepted in the Mediterranean Sea on August 30 by forces involved in an EU operation.

The EU official added that this marks the sixth suspect vessel from the shadow fleet to be seized by EU operations in recent months. Measures against the shadow fleet are among the topics slated for discussion when EU defense ministers convene in Ireland on Tuesday.
