The Islamic Resistance movement (Hamas) condemned and criticized the Palestine Liberation organization (PLO) executive Committee’s decision to appoint Hussein al-Sheikh as its chairman and deputy leader of the Palestinian Authority (PA), calling it a unilateral move dictated by foreign powers.
according to a report by the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Shehab News Agency, Hamas issued a press statement on Sunday rejecting the PLO Executive Committee’s unanimous appointment of al-Sheikh to both positions. observers and analysts view this as a planned step by Mahmoud Abbas, head of the PA, to designate his successor.
In its statement, Hamas declared: “The selection of al-Sheikh as Abbas’s deputy reinforces the same exclusionary approach, monopolizing power while disregarding national consensus.”The People’s Revolutions Stand Against Aggression and Genocide
The hamas movement emphasized: “Within the Islamic Resistance Movement, we have carefully reviewed the executive committee’s decision of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) to endorse Hossein Sheikh’s appointment as ‘Deputy Head of Self-Governing Formations.’ This step is not negligible,as it comes in response to external pressures and dictates,aiming to reinforce exclusionary measures while ignoring national consensus and the will of the Palestinian people.”
The Islamic Resistance Movement further noted: “This decision reflects the insistence of influential leaders within the PLO on maintaining a stalled process rather than transforming into a protective shield for our nation’s struggles and living forces. Today, palestine’s priority is halting aggression, resisting genocide and starvation, unifying efforts against occupiers and settlement expansions—not divisions over titles or power-sharing that onyl serve oppressive agendas.”Hamas Stresses Commitment to Palestinian Unity and Resistance
Hamas : “We call on all Palestinian factions and forces to endorse this decision, ensuring it is indeed based on national principles and democracy—free from external pressures or dictates. Benjamin Netanyahu, the former Prime Minister of Israel’s far-right regime, congratulated Hussein al-sheikh upon his appointment in a telegram, wishing him success.
