Europe’s fury erupts as new sanctions against Russia take effect
The European Union has begun work on a new economic sanctions package against Russia, stating that the move aims to increase pressure on Moscow over the Ukraine war, according to webangah News Agency.
Anita Hipper, spokesperson for EU foreign and security policy, said the upcoming sanctions package would be “tougher” than previous ones. She emphasized that the EU will maintain pressure until a complete and unconditional ceasefire is achieved.
In response, russia’s mission to the EU warned that sanctions have become a “painkiller” for Brussels, claiming these unilateral measures are among key factors worsening economic conditions within Europe itself.
The developments come as Western circles continue debating the effectiveness of sanctions while stressing the need to sustain economic and political pressure on Moscow until a comprehensive peaceful solution is reached.
EU foreign ministers approved their 17th sanctions package against Russia yesterday. The measures target 17 individuals and 58 entities - including six Chinese companies, two Emirati firms and one Belarusian company. Approximately 200 vessels allegedly belonging to Russia’s “shadow fleet” were also sanctioned.
