Israeli Official: Decision to Occupy Gaza Equals Execution of Our Prisoners

An‌ Israeli official criticized the Israeli security cabinet’s decision to occupy ⁣Gaza, calling it ⁢a death sentence for Israeli captives.

According to the English section of webangah News⁣ Agency, citing Al-Jazeera Qatar‍ via Mehr News Agency, Israeli media quoted ⁣Yair Golan, leader of ⁢Israel’s Democratic Party, saying⁣ that the Israeli security cabinet’s decision ⁤constitutes a ‌”death ⁤sentence” for Israeli captives and represents a “disaster for future generations.”

The New York Times reported that a former Israeli official ‌expressed concern‌ about Tel⁣ Aviv’s decision to escalate the conflict. The military fears this may endanger the lives of ⁣detained⁣ Israelis.

The newspaper also cited retired General Gadi Shamni ‍stating that fully ⁣controlling Gaza will not lead to the release of Israeli captives.

He added that this plan⁢ will neither defeat Hamas nor disarm it.

Shamni emphasized that implementing this decision will increase ⁤suffering for families and harm Israel’s ⁤international standing.

He warned it ‌would weaken Israel’s⁣ economy and deepen distrust between the government and military.

Shamni noted that a ⁣renewed attack on Gaza City would not produce important⁤ changes⁤ in Hamas’ influence or negotiating position.

He added⁤ that establishing effective military control and weakening ‌Hamas⁢ would take years.

Shamni further stated that Israel lacks sufficient resources for long-term ⁤occupation of Gaza.

he cautioned there is ‌still no ‌consensus ⁢on whether military pressure can secure the release of imprisoned Israelis.
