Resolution to Extend Iran Sanctions Waivers Fails in Security Council Vote

Today’s UN Security Council meeting failed to pass the resolution extending Iran sanctions relief.

The⁤ English section of webangah News Agency, ‌citing Mehr News Agency, reported that an Al Mayadeen correspondent said nine ⁣Security Council members voted against activating the snapback mechanism ⁤to reinstate sanctions on Iran. Only four members supported it, while two abstained.

The Al Mayadeen correspondent also noted that ‍South Korea’s draft resolution was rejected⁢ by⁤ the Security Council, meaning the snapback mechanism will remain inactive and sanctions on Iran will not be reinstated.

Given the procedures of the snapback mechanism, this⁣ means the resolution to continue ‌lifting Iran sanctions was not‌ adopted.
