Algeria: Sanctions on Iran Undermine Political Efforts
The Algerian representative at the United nations Security Council emphasized that Iran’s nuclear issue has no military solution and that maximum pressure policies onyl harm the case, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera.
He added that reinstating sanctions on Iran undermines previous diplomatic efforts. Our affirmative vote to lift sanctions against Iran was based on international law and our commitment to peacefully resolving conflicts.
The Algerian delegate stated, ”Any political and peaceful solution for Iran’s nuclear program will help reduce tensions in the Middle East. We stress that global peace and stability must be everyone’s top priority.”
He also noted that further sanctions and pressure not only fail to solve the problem but also call diplomatic efforts into question. He condemned recent military actions targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
The Pakistani representative at the Security Council said, “We believe all concerns regarding iran’s nuclear program should be addressed through negotiation and diplomacy.Insufficient time was given to diplomacy regarding this issue. More time is needed to reach a new agreement. we must develop a plan that addresses all parties’ concerns under the JCPOA, ensuring all sides commit fully-not just one party.”
