Russia: European Countries’ Actions Against Iran Lack Legal Justification
According to Mehr News Agency via Al Jazeera, Vasily Nebenzya, Russia’s representative at the United Nations, emphasized during a Security council meeting that the signatories of the Iran nuclear deal do not have the right to re-impose UN sanctions on Tehran.
He added that actions taken by the European troika to restore sanctions against Iran lack legal legitimacy.
Nebenzya stressed that European countries reject diplomatic approaches toward Iran’s nuclear program and that reinstating sanctions against Iran has no legal basis.
Following the failure to pass a resolution extending the lifting of sanctions on Iran, nebenzya condemned efforts to reimpose them.
he stated that lifting sanctions remains the only correct decision and expressed surprise over South Korea’s choice to align with destructive Western policies.
nebenzya also noted that it is clear England, France, and Germany aim to use the Security Council as leverage against a state striving to protect its interests.
